Tree Canada Certifies Dolce Publishing Carbon Neutral
A First for the Canadian Publishing Industry
Ottawa, ON March 18, 2008 — Dolce Publishing Inc., publishers of lifestyles magazines such as Dolce, City Life and Vaughan Living, has agreed to become the first publishing company in Canada to offset its carbon emissions through the planting of trees.
“Recent talk of climate change has prompted us to embrace the social responsibility of protecting the environment from what harms it,” said Michelle Zerillo-Sosa, President ofDolce Publishing Inc.
“As a company, we are fully committed to reducing emissions, while covering stories that will educate our readers on the personal and global benefits of a greener lifestyle,” said Fernando Zerillo, Vice President of Dolce Publishing Inc.
According to Tree Canada, Dolce Publishing is responsible for the production of 101.61 tonnes of carbon dioxide during 2007-2008 as a result of its operations. To offset these emissions, the company will sponsor the planting of 831 trees, which will absorb this CO2from the air over a period of 20 years. This is in addition to measures the company has taken to implement recycling facilities while using 30% FSC paper from well-managed forests, controlled sources and recycled wood or fiber to print their magazines
“Companies like Dolce Publishing are to be commended for taking on an increasing role in helping the environment,” said Michael Rosen, President of Tree Canada.
“We are pleased that Dolce Publishing has joined our growing list of carbon neutral companies,” he said.
The trees will be planted in the Sudbury region in spring 2009, under the afforestation guidelines outlined in the Kyoto Protocol and in collaboration with the City of Sudbury.
