In New York City on Nov. 8, 2007, Hearts of Gold celebrated its 11th anniversary with a La Dolce Vita themed fall fashion show. Hearts of Gold is a non-profit organization that has adopted three homeless shelters in New York, and serves over 350 kids and 230 mothers each year with holiday and birthday gifts, and a “Mom of the Month” spa treat. This year’s benefit raised $250,00, which will help support Hearts of Gold’s services. www.heartsofgold.org
10th Annual Hospice Vaughan Gala

On Nov. 9, 2007, the red carpet was rolled out at Riviera Parque for the Hospice Vaughan The Red Carpet gala. Celebrating 10 years of service in Vaughan, the gala raised $70,000 for Hospice Vaughan, which offers families and individuals support when dealing with life-threatening illnesses. Honourary chairs at the event were Richard Gambin, John Quaglietta, Domenic Rotundo and Enzo Di Iorio of the law firm Gambin RDQ.

What a Girl Wants Canadian Liver Foundation

On Nov. 25, 2007, the What a Girl Wants high tea and silent auction was hosted by Live Eye host of Breakfast Television Jennifer Valentyne. Over 250 women were in attendance to support children’s liver health, and almost $30,000 was raised. Ten-year old Paige of New Lowell spoke about her dad’s life-saving liver transplant. Paige was supported on stage by Aimee,10, who raised $2,500 for the Canadian Liver Foundation in 2006. Liver transplant recipient Kailey, age 2, helped draw door prizes. 2007 Gala for SickKids

On Nov. 16, 2007, Le Parc Banquet Hall played host to the 2007 Gala for SickKids. Guests were entertained with radio and television host Ted Woloshyn, excellent Italian food, great music, a silent auction and tons of great prizes. Grand prizes included a 2008 Vespa, a brand new ATV from Kawasaki, and a paid trip for two to Montreal to see a hockey game. This year’s gala raised over $70,000 for the SickKids Foundation.

Nicky’s Dream for SickKids Gala

Despite the harsh winter weather, a tremendous amount of friends, family and sponsors made it out to celebrate and support Nicky’s Dream for SickKids on Nov. 26, 2007, at The Terrace Banquet Hall. Held on what would have been Nicky’s 27th birthday, the event was hosted by Nicky’s parents, Nick and Anna De Luca. The De Luca family started the event in honour of Nicky’s dream to help SickKids. Heart of Fashion

On Nov. 18, 2007, over 1,600 guests joined in to support the North York General Hospital’s BMO Financial Group Breast Diagnostic Centre and Cancer Care Services at the Heart of Fashion event at Bayview Village Shopping Centre. In seven years, the North York General Hospital Foundation has raised over $1 million. The Heart of Fashion event pushed them over the million-dollar mark, raising over $170,000. www.heartoffashion.ca
Raising Money for John Pimpinella

In September 2002, John Pimpanella’s life changed after being hit by a car. After flying into the air and hitting his head on the curb, John slowly became paralyzed. Over the years, John has suffered from this accident and has also been diagnosed and treated for testicular cancer. Today, John is clear of cancer but still suffers from paralysis. The fundraiser was to raise money for John, whose family has struggled financially. With the love and support of family, friends and sponsors, the event raised nearly $15,000. 416.661.6381
21st Annual Teddy Bear Affair

Over 1,000 gathered at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on November 17, 2007, to support the Children’s Aid Foundation at the annual Teddy Bear Affair. The night was put together to help abused and neglected, high-risk children across Canada. One hundred per cent of the proceeds from the event will go directly to assisting children’s programs. Guest stars included Tom Cochrane, Sophie Milman, Alex Tintinalli, Kollage and Toya Alexis. This year’s event raised $1.7 million! www.cafdn.org
ICE “The Dream Party”

ICE (I Care Enough), co-founded by Stephanie DeGasperis and Lisa Grassa, held its first event, The Dream Party, on Dec. 23, 2007. All proceeds went to the Sunshine Foundation, which grants wishes for children living in Canada with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses. Chum City Christmas Wish at Sotto Zero

On November 29th, 2007, Sotto Zero helped support the Chum City Christmas Wish by collecting unwrapped toys and cash or cheque donations. For every $2 donated by the public, Sotto Zero generously donated a dollar of its own to the Chum City Christmas Wish.
